John McGowan is a man who can do it all. He works as a sales rep
for Sandy Motors, films Auto Show TV, and runs his own company, Johnny Mac's
Jamming DJ Service, at the young age of 22.
McGowan, a recent graduate of Mitchell College, sat down with me
to discuss his success. His pride is his business, a DJ service, voted as one
of the best wedding DJ's in Rhode Island.
"My favorite part about being a DJ is having the ability to
be at each and every event. I enjoy making sure that every event goes off without
a hitch and that the client is pleased. I enjoy seeing people have a good
time."
John graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communication.
During his college career, he helped to bring forth Mitchell College's own
radio station. From freshman year to senior year, he was station manager.
"Being station manager was a great experience.I had a team
of dedicated staff that I worked with day in and day out to make the station
sound good both on and off the air. At events, it showed me the ins and outs of
radio with both production and operations. I feel that it prepared me for the
real world by having me deal with purchasing, management, keeping staff in line
and helping me grow to better myself as someone who is in charge."
John has been doing radio for most of his life, beginning his
freshman year of high school at Bishop Hendricken in Warwick, RI.
"My entire world is radio and I've worked so long to better
myself with it. When I started doing Auto Show TV, it was difficult to change
my speed and the way I read the script. I had to work to make it seem like I
was talking to the audience even more on TV than radio."
Since graduating, McGowan has big plans for his future. He is
currently On Air Talent for Q105 and WELJ in New London, CT, and fills in on weekends
and middays.
"I plan to continue to work in radio and transform myself
more into TV. I'm also planning on attending Rhode Island College for my
Masters Degree."
John has many passions. In his free time, John can be found
washing and cleaning cars, enjoying a bike ride, pointing or playing with his
Bischon, Bernie. Follow John on twitter @JohnnyMac417!
